Hotel Survival Guide

The hotel has previously hosted assorted conventions from Science Fiction to Highlander, so it is quite accustomed to having large groups of brightly and fancifully attired convention- and conference-goers filling its hallways and rooms, and we have been here for several years. The PantheaCon staff has put together this little guide to help acquaint our attendees - many of whom may not have attended previous events here - with some time-tested advice on "the Care and Feeding of Hotels" along with some of the special features of this facility.

Smoking

The sleeping rooms are designated non-smoking/never-smoking rooms for the health and convenience of persons who have allergies or other sensitivities to air-born contaminants. Please be aware that all rooms have sensors installed to detect heat and smoke, so the use of incense, candles, etc., is NOT allowed. We suggest that the hotel balconies are excellent places (weather permitting) for smoking.

Guests

There is no sleeping allowed in the public areas, hallways, etc., of the hotel. Please make sure that extra gear such as sleeping bags, etc., are out of the way when the maids come in to clean the room in the morning. Leave a big tip, if you've had a party and there is a lot of extra work for the maids over and above their usual chores of cleaning, changing towels and linens, etc.

The Maids

Speaking of the maids, the best way to ensure extra towels, pillows, soap, shampoo, etc., is to leave a tip for the maid who cleans your room. Since this may not be the same person over the course of your stay here, we suggest that you leave a tip every day. A couple of dollars is a good base rate, and at least double this if there is a lot for the maid to do. In the top drawer of the desk in each sleeping room you will find hotel stationery--the tip can be put in one of the envelopes with "for the maid" written on it and left in a prominent place on the desk. Do not leave money lying loose about or taped to the mirror.

Do Not Disturb signs

The maids generally start to clean and refresh the sleeping rooms around 7 AM. If you do not wish to be disturbed that early, do place the "Do Not Disturb" door-hanger on the outside doorknob. However, you must make sure that when leaving your sleeping room you turn it over to the "Please Make Up Room Now" side, otherwise you will never get clean towels and linens in your room. If you are later than 9 AM in getting out of your room, you can call Housekeeping when you leave and let them know that your room is ready to be made up--they can then contact one of the maids working your floor and let her know.

No Vending out of Guest Rooms

PLEASE NOTE – Vending is under the aegis pf PantheaCon. No authorized vending is permitted, and there is NO vending permitted outside of PantheaCon authorized spaces. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Check-out

Hotel check out time is 12:00 Noon. If you need a late check out, you may call the Front desk and see if one can be arranged. The Bell Captain (where the luggage carts are kept) may also be able to store your luggage at that station for a few hours after you check out until you are ready to leave.

Restaurants, Lounges, etc

Hours for the restaurants, bars, and lounges are posted. While you can find this and other general information in the hotel information guide which is in your sleeping room, here are some extra hints from us:

The extra waiters may not be used to large fluid groups in the Garden Café., so tip well and be tolerant of their being a bit overwhelmed.

Check the Info table for lists of local restaurants (10 to 15 min away) or call Waiters on Wheels for food that can be delivered to your room.

Spencer's Steak House — Also serves food other than steak. Expensive

Coffee Garden — Enjoy the casual "al fresco" atmosphere of the Coffee Garden Restaurant. Enjoy all day banquet dining and the Espresso Bar featuring freshly-baked pastries, gourmet coffees and fresh fruit juices. Better prices

A Pizza and Snack Cart near the Garden Cafe and the Quiet bar. We get easy low cost food here. They will have a second snack cart near Registration.

California Sushi & Sake Bar — usually only open weeknight evenings like Friday or Monday, located in the Quiet Bar, overlooking the pool.

Club Max — a typical bar with pool room, featuring live music and disc jockey entertainment most evenings, Club Max serves the area's liveliest happy hour. Pool tables, live bands Thursday through Saturday, live sports shown nightly on TV make Club Max a favorite spot for area locals.

Room Service In-room dining service features an extensive menu served 24 hours a day. From a continental breakfast of freshly baked pastries and fresh fruit juices to a pizza or five-course dinner served on a silver platter.

Pool and Hot Tub

The pool and hot tub are available. There is no life guard on duty. Since these areas are in full view of anyone in several public areas of the hotel (that is, not just our people) bathing suits are required. So, please, no nudity, or we will forfeit the right to use these areas.

Clothing/Costumes

We encourage our attendees to dress up. Again, please keep in mind that we are sharing this facility with non-pagans. A few rules of good sense and etiquette do apply:

Cover up in the lobbies and elevators if your costume is scanty. Otherwise costuming is encouraged.

We strongly suggest that athames and other ritual tools which might be mistaken for weapons be "peace-bonded" (please see the section in the Program Book from the Operations/Conference Assistance Team regarding this procedure).
