  Baba Yaga is a figure of great power in Russian folklore, an ancient solitary, forest dweller, threatening, capricious, potentially generous. A special case of the archetype of the powerful (wicked) old witch, who can help or destroy. What is there about Her that compels our attention? How does She figure in mythology, legend, art, and literature? What is She to psychologists? How does She inhabit our Pagan society? How can we meet Her, survive, and get what we need?

  The focus of this lecture and discussion is to create pathways for alternative spirituality practitioners to gain access to mental health treatment that is free of discrimination towards their beliefs. We'll discuss diagnoses, insurance, discussing paganism with mental health practitioners, medications, hospitalizations, and how to work with and not against the system.

• When We Call, Who Comes? A Look at Pagan Thea/ology — M. Macha NightMare — Carmel
  Panel on Pagan beliefs about theism -- polytheism, pantheism, monotheism, atheism, panentheism, animism. Pantheons, archetypes, and matron/patron deities. How our beliefs affect our practice, or not.

• The Possession Experience — Kenaz Filan — Monterey
  A brief look at possession in Vodou, compared and contrasted with possession and similar experiences in other traditions. Possible topics of discussion would include the differences and similarities between possession and "aspecting" or "shadowing" and a comparison and contrast between positive possession experiences (possession by a Lwa, Samadhi, etc.) and negative (oppression, "demonic possession" etc.).

• Seeking the Center — Orion Foxwood — Pine
  Living in the physical world, while seeking spiritual wisdom can be a great challenge to all of us. The trials of life and its changes can distract us from inner peace and spiritual connectedness and leave us feeling "off center". Yet, our center is the very foundation of our being and the anchoring point that keeps us from going a drift in the tides of life. Orion will discuss the concept of "the center", what it is, how we lose it, "the primary distractions" and how to develop a lifestyle that maintains alignment with both our personal center and the center of creation. This will include some diagnostic techniques, cleansing, restoration practices, the role of meditation and prayer and use of a technique known as "praying to the center"

  ***This is NOT a mask making workshop. Do you have fabulous masks that you've made or bought that decorate your altars, adorn your shelves and otherwise lay dormant? Bring them back to life! Masks are not just theatrical adornments, but powerful tools that can unlock the doors that connect us with deity, spirits and elementals. In this workshop you will learn tried and true acting exercises, methods and games that will help you discover those connections. Working with a variety of masks, you will learn a process for cleansing and clearing your own physical and emotional "baggage" and then how to "take on" the qualities of a given mask. Then we will experiment with communicating and interacting with other "masked" creatures. You will leave with practical and usable methods to deepen and empower your use of masks in circles, rituals or for private journeys.

  Erynn Rowan Laurie discusses the Gaelic mystic poetic tradition of filidecht and its relation to holy madness and healing work.

• Circlesinging: Group Vocal Improvisation — D. J. Hamouris — Monterey
  Circlesinging is a vocal improvisation technique in which a circle of singers takes melodic & rhythmic cues (parts) from a skilled leader, together creating songs unique to the moment. As the leader cues out old parts and introduces new ones, the song continues and changes without stopping, at time supporting individual solos, always grounded in attentive listening. Participants are welcome at any level of singing experience.

• Path of a Warrior — Dennis Ford — San Carlos
  This is a look into the ancient and current warrior traditions in the pagan world. It will look at the past roles as well as the current roles and some of the misconceptions of warrior traditions. It will introduce the warrior path as a path of balance as well as some skills that every warrior needs. This class will involve some movement so please wear proper foot wear or be prepared to be barefoot.

• The Power, Impact and Responsibility of Personal Choice — LaSara FireFox — San Martin
  Every action has an impact. For those of us who believe that we build our realities from belief (call it magick, the law of attraction, or karma), this is not a new idea. However, it's one we too often minimize. Whether you realize it or not, whether you like it or not, your personal choices are constantly and consistently having an impact. This is true on many levels. Come and learn how to use your impact as a conscious, potent force for positive change.

  Excerpts from a dance-theater rock musical interpretation of Mary Magdalene. Her reincarnation is appropriately timed to address the blackening of her reputation as well as an apology for leaving the church to Peter. • Intentional Ordeals: Ritual Consecration of Embodiment — D. Christopher Dryer — San Carlos
  Although Gaia-based spiritual traditions emphasize immanence, our mentally focused culture makes it difficult to stay present to our bodies and their wisdom.   A workshop in Circle, or Sacred Dance: a means of experiencing and celebrating our connection to the rhythms of the earth, to each other, and to our sources. We will teach simple meaningful beautiful dances from Greece, Scotland, Israel, the Incas, the Shakers, the Inuits, all done to splendid music, holding hands in a circle. No dance experience needed; no partners required.

• Liturgy of Lady Liberty — Fellowship of the Spiral Path — Pine
  The Liturgy of the Lady is a worship service presented to honor an aspect of the Goddess and to ask for Her guidance. In this election year, we turn to the Goddess of this country to aid us in making our wishes known to those who hope to govern us. May her torch shine brightly, maintaining our liberties of free speech, the right to dissent, and our freedom of religion.

• Pagan Permaculture: Spirituality and Sustainability — F.F.R.A.S.S. — Fir
  Our gardens integrate our attention and our lives with the cycles of Nature. We invite anyone with an interest in growing things to join us as we learn to create ecosystems that include our recycled wastes(compost) and produce plants for food and medicine, habitat, beauty and magic. Working with life events, as if they contained tarot-like symbols to be interpreted, reveals the dream. This powerful symbolic technique will teach you to find the lessons in everyday occurrences and hear the messages from your inner wisdom-self. Even more, you will awaken to new potentials and, ultimately, to the Real Self.

  For this craft activity, for women only, we will use fabric to represent and honor our most sacred female parts.

• Sekhmet and Set: the Misunderstood Deities of Ancient Egypt — Richard Reidy — Santa Clara
  Who really are these two ancient deities? How were they viewed by the Egyptians themselves? Why are they now seen by some as negative or even downright scary? We will take a look at a variety of important ancient texts as well as recurrent themes in Egyptian myths that shed light on these two powerful deities. We will also examine a classic method used by the ancient Egyptians for invoking the beneficial energies of these gods. Richard Reidy received his Masters of Divinity degree in 1979 and is the author of Ancient Egyptian Rituals for the Modern World which presents authentic ancient Egyptian rituals for contemporary use (visit www.ignotuspress.com for a description and ordering information). • Introduction to Graeco-Egyptian Magick — Tony Mierzwicki — Carmel
  Egypt during the Graeco-Roman period was a melting pot of numerous spiritual and philosophical movements drawn from the length and breadth of the Hellenic Empire. Graeco-Egyptian Magick was the last flowering of pagan magick in Egypt and consisted of a blending of a number of ancient magickal streams. This lecture will provide a brief overview of this system of magick. A short angelic invocation will be included so as to provide a practical illustration of the basic principles of this system of magick.

• Spiritual Spring Cleaning:Preparing for the Season Ahead — Deborah Blake — Monterey
  Spring is coming! Make the most of this season's energy for growth and renewal by clearing away all those things that might keep you from moving forward in a positive way. Then figure out what you want to grow and flourish in your life and go for it! Author and Wiccan HPS Deborah Blake will share simple, practical suggestions for cleansing and clearing away winter's debris, both magickal and mundane. Participants will then take part in a ritual that includes a "Spiritual Spring Cleaning Spell" and be given a "Full Moon Spell for Rebirth" to be used later.
