Most modern traditions of magic in the western world have their roots either in folk magic or in the 19th century revival of occultism. While the older ceremonial magic of the Renaissance was used as raw material in both these currents, Renaissance magic had its own, radically different ways of understanding and shaping the world. Join occult historian John Michael Greer in an exploration of a forgotten realm of magical possibilities, from the philosophy of Renaissance magic through its core practices to forgotten magical disciplines such as the Combinatory Art and the Notory Art -- a world of magic with much to offer today's practitioner.

- Light and Sound Mind Machines Jason Augustus Newcomb San Carlos
I recently began exploring the magical possibilities in using light and sound mind machines for consciousness exploration, and I've found these devices useful for exploring everything from deeply meditative states, improved visualization, to invocations and transformation. If you are unfamiliar with them, synchronized light and sound stimulation gently encourage your brainwaves to enter into corresponding states- alpha, theta, delta etc. It's not really anything new at all. Flickering candle flames, ritual drumming, rhythmic chanting, these have all been used in ritual to create consciousness changes for millennia. But now the same principles are available in a compact and precise technology. Come explore them with me.
- Sacrifice & Its place in modern Paganism Sam Webster San Juan
What is Sacrifice? Our forebears made offerings at every religious occasion, pouring libations, burning incense, slaughtering animals. Modern Pagans do not have the same relationship with the practice. For some it evokes horror, images of cruelty and that icon, the human sacrifice. Yet every parent knows that sacrifice is a part of life. Honorees know the encouragement honor gives, and what heart knows not the warm response to a gift gladly given? Surely the Gods know this. So what place has sacrifice in the life of a Pagan today? Join me for a focused conversation.
